Barbarian + New Gospel at Kings in the Corner. Some stuff for human voice and synthesizer in the Atrium (off Flinders St) in Federation Square this Sunday. A reprise of Barbarian for pipe organ and synthesizer (with the pipe organ realised by a synthesizer this time around!), and a new project called New Gospel featuring the incredible voice of New Zealand tenor Timoti Bramley. Timoti has sung for the Dalai Lama and has just finished studies in the US. We're doing an electro-acoustic pastiche of opera, jazz, and gospel.

Sunday 27 February 2011, two performances - 11am + 12.15pm The Atrium - Fed Square (it's free!) (the big indoor area with the entrance on Flinders St)

dis-organ-eyes-d3 flier

Dis-Organ-Eyes-d3 - A showcase of upcoming RMIT audio technology talent using computers to drive the Melbourne Town Hall Grand Organ.

I am a collaborating artist for the evening and will be premiering my (very) new piece "Barbarian" for pipe organ, computer, and retro synthesizer. It's a fairly major work in three movements and draws influence from Widor, Handel, Beethoven, the good kind of 70s prog rock, and 80s chip tunes for computer games. The evening also features visual artist Kit Webster who is doing some crazy stuff mapping digital imagery onto the physical features of the organ.

Melbourne Town Hall, Saturday 9 october 2010, 8:00 PM - 9:20 PM. Doors and bar open 7.30pm. Free admission. General admission seating.

CMS Recital - "Romantic Impressions" (aka "How to Score a Date with Venus") - A delicious mix of Romantic-era epics (Chopin G minor Ballade, Schumann Fantasie) followed by my two favourite French sea pieces, Ravel's "Ship on the Ocean", and Debussy's "Joyous Isle" about the home of Venus the love goddess. Nobody's sure whether the piece is about setting off to find the island, or about leaving it having presumably had an enjoyable stay, or something else entirely. Great music though.

Tuesday 2 March. 10.30am. Camberwell Uniting Church. 314 Camberwell Rd. CMS is on the web at http://home.vicnet.net.au/~music/html/morning_concerts_2010.html.

"Sacred Selections and Shall We?" - Melbourne International Arts Festival - From Chopin to black metal, the organ is taken to the extreme in a night of hard core musical exploration.

Organ transcriptions curated by British contemporary artist Matt Stokes are played by Rowan Vince and Tim McKenry. Then Ollie McGill (Cat Empire) is playing some new works of his own. Finally organ wizard Cameron Carpenter teams up with UK musician and DJ Bishi to perform a diverse repertoire ranging from work on their own albums through to pieces from ancient Sanskrit, from Chopin to Disney.

12 oct 2009. 7.30 pm. Melbourne Town Hall.
