New Gospel

Conceived and performed by Rowan Vince and Timoti Bramley.

"I've been looking all my life for that space in between".

Classic works from jazz, opera, and gospel are reinterpreted for electro-acoustic duo in a reflection of contemporary (mis)appropriation and re-combination of traditional forms of art, science and religion in a wired society.

The music of Massenet, Kurt Weil, Bacharach, Eben Ahbez, James Shelton, and traditional gospel song is blended into a latter day cocktail of style, synths, piano, improvisation, and the human voice.

Moments of space and reflection are sought within the reinvention of the source material, and in striving to do something new we rediscover the ideas that were there all along.

"New Gospel" was performed alongside "Barbarian" at Federation Square, Melbourne, Australia on 27 February 2011 as part of "Kings in the Corner".

The recording on this page was taken live from that event.
